Sparrows Review

It’s been a little over a week since Sparrows has been released into the wild. *heh* Get it?

Anyways… One of my lovely beta readers AND ARC readers did a really great, honest review and I wanted to share it with you all!

Sparrows begins not long after where Fliers left off. Sydona, still reeling from the events of Eagle Lake and harmful secrets she has been harboring, is working to officially train with and join a rebellion group. But integrating into the Sparrows, after spending years on her own, proves to be difficult. Faced with betrayal and crippling self-doubt, Syd has to navigate this transition as the National Fliers Association bares down on her friends–both human allies and fliers alike. A lot of responsibility is thrust upon her in a short period of time, her relationships with her rebellion mates are on the rocks, it’s all a very stressful time and she’s being very Syd about it–which is to say frustrating but the loner in her can’t help to jump out every once in a while.

I loved how she made Syd into an adjective. xD

We learn a little more about her past and her connection to an old friend and how their lifestyle led to some tough decisions that she had to make. It was a contrast that I enjoyed.

I’ll admit, I really enjoyed writing it as well.

I can see the pacing of the plot being both a positive and a negative. Like the first book, I think the story is at its best when the characters are on the road. The story really moves, it goes through locations and beats at a fairly fast clip but unfortunately, unless it’s to resolve a conflict, there aren’t very many scenes where we get quiet character moments to further flesh out the original characters. We get more backstory on Silas and Willow but they, along with Gia, seem to get a little lost in the shuffle. In addition to the original gang, a few new characters are introduced. Sparrow leaders Avani and Knox and trouble couple Lacey and Jet grew on me.

Great feedback. I really like introducing new characters and giving the reader someone new to learn about. But sometimes when you have a large cast, some other characters might get pushed to the back. It’s something I’m still learning and I really appreciate the honest feedback when it comes to this.

On the whole it’s a fast read with a headstrong protagonist, a colorful cast of characters, and an unexpected climax. The author’s writing style is only improving and I can’t wait for the follow up.

Yay, I’m improving! I’m glad it’s showing! I can’t wait to release the third and final book either. She’s right about the climax, it’s a bit of a cliff hanger (but that was the point!) Thanks again for the review! You’ve been so great and I’m happy you enjoyed it and also were real with me. Seeing these type of in-depth reviews with evidence and realism really helps me grow as a writers, in turn, I write better books for all of you.

If you have read Sparrows, I would love to hear your thoughts! It’s available to review on Amazon, Goodreads, B&N and some others as well. Even just telling your friends would help me greatly!

Thank you again for continuing to support indie authors. We all are in this together!

Happy trails,

Laura Mae

Podcast

Omg, I just realized I never told you guys that I did a podcast a couple weeks ago! I’m so sorry. It’s been a little crazy. Here is that podcast if you’re interested: Podcast.

The ladies who interviewed me were super nice. If you happen to look at any of the other podcast interviews, I really enjoyed most of them and they cover every aspect of the writing world. Especially when it comes to independent authors. The topic I chose was all about social media and the importance of it. If it’s not your thing, I would suggest taking a listen to understand why we need it when it comes to marketing ourselves.

So in case you haven’t been keeping up, my second book is out in less than 2 weeks! 8 days to be exact. I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW CLOSE IT’S GETTING! I’ve been trying to get things ready with it and perfecting it before it goes public. But let me just say how incredibly grateful I am to my ARC readers! Of course I didn’t have a perfect, error-free manuscript and they told me! Just little things here and there, but sometimes it can really take the reader out of the story. One thing that was found was really helpful as it was an inconsistency as far as age went. So, I was super happy that was noticed. And I’m also very happy that some of them submitted reviews already, letting everyone know what they are getting before they get it. It’s so awesome. Thank you guys!

Besides book things, I was recently promoted at my day job and that has me much busier than before. I’m actually really happy where I am too because I have more responsibilities and get to actually talk to people on the phone and build relationships. It’s much better than directing calls and dispatching (it can get old, fast). But now that my boss just left and we have no one to replace him yet, it’s gonna probably get even busier.

Anyways, thought I’d give you all an update about what’s going on with me. I have also slowed down on the Indie-Go Interviews. I may start doing it again, but we’ll see. I hope you all have been doing well and that the summer heat isn’t dragging you down too much!

Happy Trails,

Laura Mae

Sparrows Release Date!

It’s been officially announced! My second book is available to the world on June 25th, 2019. As of right now, it’s only available for pre-order on ebook. I will be sure to announce the pre-order for the paperback edition.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve been going exclusively through Ingram Spark this time around, rather than Amazon. (The ebook is through Amazon currently, but only because I want you all to get it pre-ordered!) I will be turning it off once it’s released but it will still be available on Amazon. Confused? Sorry…

But don’t worry! Someway, somehow, I will have Sparrows available to buy on it’s release date! If you’re not able to pre-order, just remember the date and it will be there to buy at your fingertips!

I also got my ARC copies in and posted my reaction video on the social medias if you want to watch. I am extremely satisfied with how it turned out! And good thing because I ordered a bunch and it would have sucked if there was a big issue! I’ll be sending them out to my ARC readers on Monday and I am dying from excitement to hear their thoughts on it. I honestly think I love this one more than the first, is that weird? I wrote this one so much quicker than the first one too, so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. *shrugs* But I’m excited to hear what people think of all the new characters I’ve introduced and the new issues that have come up. It’s more gritty and deep.

My third and final book is still in the first draft process and I’m hoping to have it out sometime next year. I’m not rushing it though and I have some things going on in my personal life that take away from my writing. But I will do my best to release it in a timely manner. No George R.R. Martin fiasco’s. πŸ˜›

If you want to pre-order Sparrows on ebook, please click here! Otherwise, follow me on social medias to be alerted once the paperback is ready! Thank you all so much for your continued support and supporting indie authors. It means, literally, everything. ❀

KickStarter

Hello everyone!! First off, I want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had an amazing 2018 and will have an even better 2019! Thank you all so much for your continued support and visiting my blog, I appreciate it so much! I really enjoy doing the Indie-Go Interviews with indie authors and writers and hope to keep it going strong in 2019. A special thank you to all of you who have taken time out of your busy schedules to talk with me! I love every single one of our chats!!

Another new thing I am doing at the beginning of the year is a Kickstarter for my new book Sparrows! I was hesitant on doing something that involved asking for money (’cause momma raised me to be proud and not take donations.) But even I have to admit when I need a little help. I also am wanting to launch it out into the world as soon as I can, and I can’t do that without YOUR help! I have some really awesome rewards that I’m giving out that you should really check out. Plus, I’ve decided to not limit where rewards are being shipped, meaning, anyone can donate and receive that reward! (Not just the US.)

If you want to check it out, I would greatly appreciate it! Click here to view it and all the cool stuff you can get! And even if you don’t donate, please share it! This will be ending on Valentines Day (February 14th), because why not.

Thank you everyone again and I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Now accepting Beta Readers!

Hello everyone! If you haven’t heard already from social media, I am now accepting beta readers for the first 10 chapters of Sparrows!! (Possibly all of them if I edit them in time) If you have read the first book, and enjoyed it, please contact me! I would love to hear your thoughts!

Keep in mind, with my beta readers who read the entire manuscript and help me out, I will give those readers a free copy once it’s published! (And maybe even put your name at the end!)

Here is the Synopsis: Sydona Wilder and her fairy Raoul are back as they join the Sparrows rebellion group against the National Fliers Association. Despite the supposed death of the NFA leader, Dr. Malik, the experiments still continue. Her new mission is to eradicate the remaining camps and free her people. However, she quickly learns humans aren’t the only ones who are untrustworthy. As she settles into the group, politics and betrayals are quick to rise and sometimes the only one she can trust is herself.
