Silas’ Interview

Interview Questions for Silas (before the story begins)

Can you tell me your full name please?

Hey, my name is Silas Hidelman.

How old are you?

I am 51.

What race are you?

I’m mostly white, but have some Spanish roots on my moms side. And I’m a flier.

Gender?

I’m a guy.

What is your favorite animal? And why?

I love dogs. They’re so loyal and protective. I grew up with bernese mountain dogs who are these beautiful long hair beasts and they were so great. Man, I miss those guys…

What’s your favorite color? And why?

Black. It literally goes with anything. And it’s slimming.

What’s your favorite season, and why?

I don’t really have one to honest.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

I wanted to be a cop. Put bad people in jail and praise those who treated others well.

What would you dress up for halloween?

I haven’t celebrated Halloween in a long time, but I was less of a kid that dressed up and more of a kid who egged houses and T.Ped random places. It’s way more exciting and fun doing that.

Do you have a favorite movie? Why?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It’s just all around great.

Favorite kind of music? Why?

Rock/Alternative. I play the guitar a little myself and do mostly alternative.

Where did you grow up and did you like it?

I grew up with an abusive father. So, no, didn’t like it too much.

What was your first job?

Bag boy at a grocery store when I turned 12. It was a’ight. Had to make money somehow.

How do you feel about kids?

I love kids. I would like to have one someday. Show him what a great dad I can be.

Marriage?

Someday, yes. Just has to be with the right person.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

When I got this sweet tattoo on my arm that is like a ying/yang dragon. I designed it myself and it took me months. I call it “the beast of inner peace.” Being one with others and yourself, but also being fierce and brave when you need to be.

Anything you’ve done that you are ashamed of? Why?

Leaving Raymond behind… he was my little brother.

Any talents or skills that you can boast about?

I can do sign language. But I don’t really boast about it, I had to learn it to talk to my brother. I’m fluent in it though. Other than that, I can juggle like no ones business.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

I don’t know. Haven’t put much thought into traveling. Kinda just go where life takes me. Like now, living like a hobo in the woods. Can’t complain though; it was my choice.

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

With a loved one.

What’s your stance on abortion?

Uh… Do I really need to answer this? Fine. I think that a woman should be able to do what she wants, but also, needs to take the child’s life into consideration. If you are doing it for selfish reasons, then no. But say you are having complications or were sexually assaulted, that’s something forced on the woman, and shouldn’t have to be the only one dealing with the consequences.

What are some bad habits that you have?

That went from a really heavy topic to me saying I hate getting haircuts. Don’t ask me why, but I just can’t stand it.

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

Well, it would be great if the woman I am dating it straight like me. But if she’s lesbian, that would just dandy too. And I don’t ask for much, just be smart, beautiful, like all the same things I do and that’s it. Easy peasy.

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

Oh. Ummmm, 8? I guess with my unsureness it should be lower, huh? Let’s go down to 6.

What’s your favorite food? Why?

I love Mexican. Dunno if it has anything to do with my genes, but I’m always down for tacos or enchiladas.

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

I’ve had a DUI before. Had a couple rough patches in my past and whiskey was my best friend. Luckily, I never hurt anyone, but did get pretty messed up and spent the night in jail. It was not a good time…

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Interesting. If I had 3 wishes, I would wish that I could see my brother again. Uh, have the money to get my own place that isn’t my ex-girlfriends. And be healthy for the rest of my life. No doctors or dentists or anything like that. I hate the doctors..

In Georgia. But it got way too humid there in the Summers. It’s humid here too, but not nearly as bad. Trus’ me.

What was your first job?

Joined the Army as soon as I turned 18. Did that for about 30 years. Livin’ in retirement now but still helpin’ Sparrows. But I don’t call that a job..

How do you feel about kids?

…Uh. I have always wanted kids, actually. A whole bunch. But, I can’t. An’ once my husband died, I didn’t see a point in adoptin’. He woulda’ made a good daddy…

Marriage?

Been married. It was wonderful…

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

Gettin’ promoted to Master Sergeant. If you knew what that was, you’d be proud too.

I can burp the alphabet in English and Spanish.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

Alaska or the North Pole. Cause they’re cold and beautiful. Alaska has moose!

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

Savin’ someone. Life’s too short to think of yerself.

What’s your stance on abortion?

Every life matters. Only excusable on certain situations.

What are some bad habits that you have?

I guess some would say I have a problem with keepin’ stuff. Don’t really like to throw things away. Most a everythin’ I have, I’ve needed. Why git rid of it?

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

My husband was my ideal partner. Most people you give this interview to single or somethin’?

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

Uh, 8 I guess.

What’s your favorite food? Why?

Meat. More specifically, jerky. I can make a jerky out of pretty much anythin’.

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

No I have not.

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Only 3 eh? That’s crap. Uh, lets go with, a bigger property with more land. Where people CAN’T trespass! *cough*Harold*cough* Second, a roommate. Livin’ alone can get lonely at times. Third, peace. Make this humans against fliers thing just stop.

Raoul’s Interview

Interview Questions for Raoul from my book ‘Fliers’

Can you tell me your full name please?

I don’t know… can you? Name’s Raoul.

How old are you?

Old.

What race are you?

Well, I’m a fairy. So. There’s that.

Gender?

Male

What is your favorite animal? And why?

I really like owls. Their eyes freak me out and I love it.

What’s your favorite color? And why?

Red. And good thing cause that’s my wings colors. Maybe that’s why I like red.. Hmm..

What’s your favorite season, and why?

Any season that isn’t cold. I don’t do well with cold.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

A bachelor. Oh wait, I still am that. Awesome.

What would you dress up for halloween?

I like dressing up as a spider, you know, putting black pipe cleaners on my back and scaring the crap out of Syd. Sometimes, I don’t even wait for Halloween.

Do you have a favorite movie? Why?

Not really. Syd and I have never really been movie watchers. We like music more.

Favorite kind of music? Why?

I listen to Syd’s classical music, which is alright. But I prefer more upbeat stuff that I can dance too. I’m a really great dancer.

Where did you grow up and did you like it?

I grew up in Cali and it was gorgeous. The weather was perfect, aside from the occasional earthquake. I miss it when it starts snowing here.

What was your first job?

What’s a job?

How do you feel about kids?

No kids. They would ruin my image for the ladies too much. I know most males in my tribe live to have kids and continue their generations, but, I’ve never wanted that.

Marriage?

Uh, I refer you to my previous answer.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

Getting a splinter out of my hand that was seriously in there for like a month! It hurt so bad…

Anything you’ve done that you are ashamed of? Why?

I blew this one girl off years ago at a Vila Prah, because of some reason I can’t even remember now. I remember seeing the look on her face when I completely dissed her to hang out with another girl. She is married now with a kid. Everytime I see her around though, it’s really awkward.

Any talents or skills that you can boast about?

I can fly really fast, but everyone knows about that. I tried playing a musical instrument once, and I was pretty good. The whole tree found out about it and tried to get me to join bands. I play sometimes, but I would rather dance and flirt. *laughs*

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

Australia. CRIKEY!

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

In a blaze of fire, as I save everyone from a burning tree. As I lie there on the ground, gasping my last breath, everyone is chanting my name and cheering me on. Ah yes. But, it would be even better if that happened and I didn’t die, and could go on living as a hero for the rest of my life. Yep.

What’s your stance on abortion?

No stance.

What are some bad habits that you have?

I don’t have any. Although, I know most fairies here think I’m too obsessed with my looks. When that’s how you get by, you kinda have to be. Jerks.

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

I’m 100% straight and no life partner, please.

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

Definitely a 10.

What’s your favorite food? Why?

Fruit! And more specifically, mango. I could live off mango for the rest of time.

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

Only what Syd dragged me into doing… But they can’t prosecute fairies.

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Oh man! Finally a good question! Okay, my first wish is to live forever! So I can do anything and everything and never have to worry about kicking the bucket. My second wish is to own fruit trees that flower and fruit on their own without ever having to take care of them. No fairy will go hungry. And third is to have unlimited wishes because, duh….

Giovonna’s Interview

Interview Questions for Giovonna (before the story begins) A character from my upcoming novel ‘Fliers.’

Can you tell me your full name please?

Giovonna Desiree Carr. But everyone calls me Gia.

How old are you?

Fourteen.

What race are you?

I’m mixed.

Gender?

Female

What is your favorite animal? And why?

I love giraffes! Their just so unique from anything else out there and I love their spots. I want to ride one someday.

What’s your favorite color? And why?

Mmmm, I know it sounds girly but it’s pink. I dunno why, it’s pretty and goes with a lot of stuff.

What’s your favorite season, and why?

I would have to say Summer. It’s the time of no school and super warm weather. I love love love to swim, and we have a pool at home that I use almost every day in the Summertime.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

Well I guess I’m still growing up, technically. But what I’ve always been fascinated with is engineering, especially robotics. Creating something with my own hands and then giving it intelligence to react and think on it’s own. Who wouldn’t find that interesting?!

What would you dress up for halloween?

I dress up every year, even though I don’t go out every year. But I know last year I was Rosie the Riveter. She’s one of my role models.

Do you have a favorite movie? Why?

Oh! I love Edward Scissorhands! Such a cute freaking movie!

Favorite kind of music? Why?

Rock mostly. I don’t know why, it just makes you wanna dance and rock out. Gets my spirits up.

Where did you grow up and did you like it?

I grew up in New York, but with the job my dad has, we relocate a lot. I did like it, made a lot of friends, but then we had to move so quickly. Mayfield is just one of many cities we’ve been to. Much different than New York.

What was your first job?

I’ve babysat a couple times, does that count?

How do you feel about kids?

They’re okay, I guess.

Marriage?

*laughs* Wayyy down the road.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

Acing a really tough Chemistry test. Teacher is really strict and hard to read their writing, but I did. I was the only one who got an A. Wouldn’t you be proud of that?

Anything you’ve done that you are ashamed of? Why?

I was at my grandmas house once, and she made this casserole that I couldn’t begin to tell you what was in it, but she was so proud of it. To be polite, I tried a bite, and I almost threw up. When she wasn’t looking, I fed pretty much all of it to her dog Benny. I thought I got away with it, but turns out, the dog didn’t like it either and threw it up too. Being as I was the only kid there, I was blamed. The look on my grandmas face though… I felt horrible.

Any talents or skills that you can boast about?

I can whistle pretty well. Like a bird. Never realized it until a couple years ago and people would compliment how good it was.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

Anywhere with a beach. I love sunshine and the sand on bare feet. Dad was stationed in Hawaii for about 6 months and I was at the ocean almost everyday.

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

Uhhhh… I don’t want to die. Is that an option?

What’s your stance on abortion?

I’ll admit, I don’t know much about the process, but it’s a woman’s body. She should be able to do what she wants with it.

What are some bad habits that you have?

I like to chew on pens and pencils when I’m studying. I’ve gone through so many packs of pens. Even had a couple explode in my mouth before. Nasty stuff.

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

Life partner? Geez, you know I’m only 14 right? And to be honest, I don’t really have a preference. I am attracted to attractive people. Girl or guy. If they rub me the right way, who knows?

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

Hmmm, I would say a 6?

What’s your favorite food? Why?

I love pizza. Because, there are so many things you can put on pizzas! Can make them healthy or as unhealthy as you want. And cheese. You can put so much cheese on it. Ug, I’m hungry now…

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

No!

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Um, be done with school, be able to live on my own, win the lottery in order to achieve the other two wishes. And I don’t mean quit school, I mean, just have the knowledge and everything to have a masters in Engineering and start doing things already!

Sydona’s Interview

I decided to get to know my MC more since I am struggling with her personality. This is a fun exercise I tried and I think it helped a lot. I might seem crazy by doing this, especially because after I filled it out as Sydona, I read it back to myself, taking like she would talk. #writerthings? I hope you enjoy, and I will probably do this for all of my characters actually. So keep an eye out for those too if you liked this.

Warning: This is very long.

Interview Questions for Sydona (before the story begins)

Can you tell me your full name please?

My name is Sydona Wilder. I don’t have a middle name. I barely have a last name. Parents told me they just picked it out once so they could blend in better with society. Most Fliers don’t have a last name.

How old are you?

I don’t think this is really necessary for you to know. It is a mystery for most people, or they think I’m in my thirties or forties. But in reality, I am in my sixties and still kickin’.

What race are you?

Well if you mean what color is my skin, I would be considered Caucasian. But sometimes people use race as in a species. If that’s the case, I am of course, a Flier.

Gender?

Female.

What is your favorite animal? And why?

Oh, interesting. I haven’t really thought about having an animal be my favorite before. But, if I had to pick I guess I would say… a Bangal Fox. Why? I guess because they are independent and live alone most of their lives and are native to India. I love India, gorgeous place. But a bit too hot for me. But I’ve seen the foxes there before, and the bottom line is, they are adorable.

What’s your favorite color? And why?

Hmm, I guess I would go with green. I love the forest and gardening and nature in general. Green seems like a color you would have to love because you are constantly surrounded by it. It’s the color of life and new beginnings.

What’s your favorite season, and why?

Spring. That’s when I can start growing things again in my garden. And flowers and everything wakes up from the winter slumber. It’s just a beautiful season in general.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

Oh wow.. When I grew up huh? Hmm, well before I was 9, I aspired to be like my mom. She was a strong independent woman. Even though she was married and settled down, she was still very much her own person. She loved to travel, as most Fliers do, and went to the most incredible places. Meeting all kinds of people, Fliers and humans alike. She loved everyone and was charismatic and loving. She liked to find exotic treasures and old history items and bargain with people. That was how she meet a lot of folks back in the day. I just realized I spoke about my mom, when the question was about myself. I guess that answers the question, I wanted to be like my mom.

What would you dress up for halloween?

Halloween? What a strange question. I haven’t celebrated that holiday since I was a child. And even then I didn’t understand the point of dressing up as someone else. Why would anyone choose to be someone you’re not? The only good part about it was the candy. I used to have a major sweet tooth. Enough to where my dad had to ban it from the house. Only time I could make up for the lack of sweets was on that day. Now that I think about it, I haven’t had candy in like 40 years..

Do you have a favorite movie? Why?

Not really into movies. Books are my movies. I don’t even own a television. Books are better too because you can envision them the way you want too, not how Hollywood makes you see it. Plus, TV and all that is bad for your eyes.

Favorite kind of music? Why?

I would have to say my favorite genre is classical or orchestral music. The way it’s presented is just so moving, and all without any words. I have even gotten goosebumps from listening to certain pieces because of how they tell the story. *laughs* I like to make up stories for some of the songs I hear. Raoul makes fun of me for it, but I don’t care. It’s entertaining for me.

Where did you grow up and did you like it?

I grew up in Glendale, California. It was good I guess, from what I remember. The weather was always real nice. But as soon as I could, I moved away from there and more into the midwest. Was never a fan of sand and ocean.

What was your first job?

*laughs loudly* Um, as long as I can tell you and not get in trouble. I was a drug peddler. Marijuana mostly. I wore sunglasses all the time, you know, to hide my eyes, so people thought I was blind. The dealer didn’t care who or what I was as long as I made my drops on time. He liked my blind girl act a lot and I was never suspected of any kind of illegal activities. I was only 12 years old. It made good money too.

How do you feel about kids?

How do you mean? Kids, like, in general or me having kids? They are alright, I suppose. But I think some people shouldn’t have any. As for myself, I have never thought of having any, mostly because you need that second person in order for that to happen. That’s far fetched. I think I would be a good mother though, if I had the chance.

Marriage?

That’s even more far fetched! I have never been in a relationship more than a couple months. I know this will sound shitty, but most guys I’ve been with I used for something. And before you ask, no. I have never been in love. I thought I was close once, but well, shit happens.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

Honestly I have to say finding this house. I admired it for many years. Once I saved up enough money to buy it, and it went on sale, I was ecstatic. As you know, it’s way out of the city, has a perfect tree for Raoul’s family, and gardening space and livestock if needed. I’ve been here ever since.

Anything you done that you are ashamed of? Why?

*hesitates and takes a minute to answer* When I was also a kid, there was a boy who called me out for being a Flier, and this was right after the abductions in the 40’s, and I didn’t wear sunglasses yet. Or… I lost them, or broke — I can’t remember. But anyway, a boy saw me and was going to tell his parents. I freaked… And ended up pushing him into a lake, on accident of course. I was scared. The boy couldn’t swim, and I tried to reach for him, but I was too late. What I am most ashamed of was that I could’ve jumped in and saved him, because I knew how to swim. But… I didn’t… I didn’t want anything bad to happen to me. I still regret it to this day.

Any talents or skills that you can boast about?

I bought this piano from a guy I knew back in the day because I found this book with music for piano players for beginners. I always thought it was an elegant instrument and told myself I needed to learn. So I did. I practiced and played for years until I perfected over 200 songs. I don’t play much anymore, because I am limited on new songs to play, but I bet if I played it again, it will be like I never stopped. Raoul always liked my songs.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

Probably Australia. One country I haven’t been too, but the reason I would is because.. It might sound stupid, but I love the way they talk. It’s not British and it’s not English. It’s so unique from any other language I’ve heard.

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

That’s morbid. *laughs* Um, if I could choose how I would die.. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as I don’t feel pain. I know that’s stupid and unrealistic, but if it were up too me, I would rather just let death take me silently and not make such a fuss about it.

What’s your stance on abortion?

Geez, who made these questions? Abortion is a sensitive subject matter and one of hardest decisions of a persons, womans life. It’s traumatizing, emotionally draining and not something I’m sure most women choose to do on a whim. It involves a lot of thought and planning. Ultimately, it’s up to the woman carrying the fetus. If she wants to make that decision, it’s not up to me or anyone to judge her for it.

What are some bad habits that you have?

These are all over the place, aren’t they? Bad habits, um, I do bite my nails. Sometimes chew my hair, which is why it looks so crappy and uneven. I guess I’m kinda messy.. Don’t really like to clean. But I’m the only one who lives here, so why bother?

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

I am straight, so I would choose a guy. I feel like this question is very subjective. There is no perfect person out there, for anyone. I don’t believe in soul mates or any of that crap. I’m not a pessimistic when it comes to love though. Love is real and I think love can change your idea of what traits you prefer. If you feel how you do about someone, it doesn’t matter if they are tall, or dark or successful. It is what it is. So what I’m saying is, it’s a flexible, ever changing question.

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

I would give myself a 7. I am insecure sometimes. But for the most part I am proud of who I am and how I got here. Anyone who gives themselves a 10 is egotistical and arrogant and I don’t want to meet that person.

What’s your favorite food? Why?

Oooh, I love Italian food. Pastas and breads and all that. I’ve been to Italy before so I have had that authentic stuff before, you know? I was in heaven. But if I could pick a dish, it would be risotto with sun dried tomatoes. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I am great at making it.

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

Well, as I said before, I dealt marijuana when I was a kid for several years. Never was caught. Also, I tended to smoke it on occasion too. But I haven’t in a very long time.

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Hmm, that’s a good question. And I’m guessing I can’t ask for more wishes, huh? That would be cheating, I suppose. Okay, so I think the first one is that I would like to see my parents again. I miss them so much.. Second one, to be able to live in a judge free world and where I can be myself. Third would be… horses. I’ve always wanted horses. My property is too small for them and I would want them to be free ranged. Like wild horses, but come whenever I whistle for them. I would also ride them to the city instead of my piece of crap car.
