Newest Fliers Review

Hey everyone! I HAD to share a recent in-depth review for Fliers because it’s amazing. I’ll link her blog here, but I’ll also share it down below with my thoughts!

Fliers by author Laura Mae is the first book in the Fliers series and I had so much fun reading this book! I love reading books written by indie authors for many reason, one being that you help an indie author! another being that I always seem to find hide gems and Fliers is definitely a hidden gem.

I love how she starts off with her support of indie authors, first off. This is awesome, be like her!!

The story takes place in a world where society is split into Humans – Fliers – and Fairies. Humans don’t generally care for the Fliers or Fairies. I don’t want to spoil too much but lets just say this causes problems for the two species.

Just a couple problems… 😉

The Main character, Sydona, is of course a Flier and man let me tell you something about Syd I. Love. Her. I’ve read a couple of previous reviews on this book on goodreads (which by the way don’t sway me any which way before I pick up a book some people are too snobby when they review books and do they even realize authors have feelings?) (ANYWAYS) and a lot of people mention Syd is too naive or closed off from the world but I think that’s one of the reasons I love her so much. She just wants to chill in her house away from the world with her veggies and Fairies, whats so wrong about that? Before I get side tracked let me just move on into why I love her, regardless of being able to hide out there and do nothing about it, she chooses to do something about the situation on the book. and she’s so stinkin brave! she really is naive about certain things don’t get me wrong but it all plays into her character perfectly.

This makes me so happy because almost no one talks about Sydona. The narrative is third-person limited and most of the story takes place in Sydona’s head and explains her feelings. In my opinion, I feel it makes you closer to that person and I’m glad that she was able to express her love for Syd. ❤

The beginning of the book felt a bit slow but that’s because there’s certain things that I realize need to play out, like certain characters coming into the story and character development so that didn’t bother me at all. You know what I loved about this book most of all? It felt genuine. The book isn’t trying hard to fit into this YA fantasy-fairy world that I feel like it keeps getting repeated over and over again. It is it’s own story set in pretty normal times with a character who is her genuine self.

I agree! I created this story from a dream and not from any story I knew of. I was not trying to write into a specific genre and did my own thing. I’m glad it was reflected as such.

Let me not forget that when it does pick up and there’s action and fighting this Laura Mae KILLED. IT. (In a good way, if you don’t get my enthusiasm) Syd is a bad ass and I love her and I’ll fight anyone for her. I love the mix of characters in this story too! There are different ages and backgrounds and they mix in super well. This book was honestly so fun for me to read and it only took me a little bit longer than usual to read because I read the E-book and I had a two day migraine episode 😦 But I totally give this book 4 stars out of 5 and recommend it to anyone who loves Ya fantasy!

I wanted to have a strong female character in this story and one who does not give up easily. And I’ve been told I write action pretty well. I honestly love writing the action scenes a lot because I myself get very immersed into it. I really try to keep it interesting and not confusing. Diversity is important to me as well as we live in a diverse world, it’s only natural to represent that.

I want to thank ‘&shereads’ so much for the review!!

Keep in mind SPARROWS is still coming and will be releasing SUPER SOON. I know I keep saying that but everyday is a little bit closer, right? Make sure you’re following my blog or even on Twitter to know exactly when the sequel will be coming out!

Interview with Michael Chrobak

Good Morning or Afternoon, depending on where you live… How are ya! I had the pleasure of talking with author Michael Chrobak this past week. He writes fantasy Christan novels and he’s such a great writer. He interviewed me in the funnest way. It was over texting, but with emoji’s and gifs. Very original! If you want to check it out, you can click here!

He’s also giving his readers a sneak peek of my book Fliers, which is such a great idea! I gave him the first two chapters and I feel silly for not letting you guys have that honor! So, if you’re still unsure if you want to pay for it, you can download Chapters 1 & 2 for free and decide from there. Just click on this link!

Remember his name because I will also be having him on the Indie-Go interviews in July. So keep an eye out!

Silas’ Interview

Interview Questions for Silas (before the story begins)

Can you tell me your full name please?

Hey, my name is Silas Hidelman.

How old are you?

I am 51.

What race are you?

I’m mostly white, but have some Spanish roots on my moms side. And I’m a flier.

Gender?

I’m a guy.

What is your favorite animal? And why?

I love dogs. They’re so loyal and protective. I grew up with bernese mountain dogs who are these beautiful long hair beasts and they were so great. Man, I miss those guys…

What’s your favorite color? And why?

Black. It literally goes with anything. And it’s slimming.

What’s your favorite season, and why?

I don’t really have one to honest.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

I wanted to be a cop. Put bad people in jail and praise those who treated others well.

What would you dress up for halloween?

I haven’t celebrated Halloween in a long time, but I was less of a kid that dressed up and more of a kid who egged houses and T.Ped random places. It’s way more exciting and fun doing that.

Do you have a favorite movie? Why?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It’s just all around great.

Favorite kind of music? Why?

Rock/Alternative. I play the guitar a little myself and do mostly alternative.

Where did you grow up and did you like it?

I grew up with an abusive father. So, no, didn’t like it too much.

What was your first job?

Bag boy at a grocery store when I turned 12. It was a’ight. Had to make money somehow.

How do you feel about kids?

I love kids. I would like to have one someday. Show him what a great dad I can be.

Marriage?

Someday, yes. Just has to be with the right person.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Why were you proud?

When I got this sweet tattoo on my arm that is like a ying/yang dragon. I designed it myself and it took me months. I call it “the beast of inner peace.” Being one with others and yourself, but also being fierce and brave when you need to be.

Anything you’ve done that you are ashamed of? Why?

Leaving Raymond behind… he was my little brother.

Any talents or skills that you can boast about?

I can do sign language. But I don’t really boast about it, I had to learn it to talk to my brother. I’m fluent in it though. Other than that, I can juggle like no ones business.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where you go? Why?

I don’t know. Haven’t put much thought into traveling. Kinda just go where life takes me. Like now, living like a hobo in the woods. Can’t complain though; it was my choice.

How do you want to die, if you could choose.

With a loved one.

What’s your stance on abortion?

Uh… Do I really need to answer this? Fine. I think that a woman should be able to do what she wants, but also, needs to take the child’s life into consideration. If you are doing it for selfish reasons, then no. But say you are having complications or were sexually assaulted, that’s something forced on the woman, and shouldn’t have to be the only one dealing with the consequences.

What are some bad habits that you have?

That went from a really heavy topic to me saying I hate getting haircuts. Don’t ask me why, but I just can’t stand it.

What is your ideal life partner traits? And what orientation do you prefer?

Well, it would be great if the woman I am dating it straight like me. But if she’s lesbian, that would just dandy too. And I don’t ask for much, just be smart, beautiful, like all the same things I do and that’s it. Easy peasy.

On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your self confidence level?

Oh. Ummmm, 8? I guess with my unsureness it should be lower, huh? Let’s go down to 6.

What’s your favorite food? Why?

I love Mexican. Dunno if it has anything to do with my genes, but I’m always down for tacos or enchiladas.

Have you ever done anything illegal? What was it?

I’ve had a DUI before. Had a couple rough patches in my past and whiskey was my best friend. Luckily, I never hurt anyone, but did get pretty messed up and spent the night in jail. It was not a good time…

If you could have 3 wishes granted right now, what would they be?

Interesting. If I had 3 wishes, I would wish that I could see my brother again. Uh, have the money to get my own place that isn’t my ex-girlfriends. And be healthy for the rest of my life. No doctors or dentists or anything like that. I hate the doctors..
